“There is hope, and there is support.” – Ian George
This was a great chat. Fresh from the gym, which is perfect as the theme of these year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is “movement”, the Amongst Liars frontman took time around promoting his old band (good use of old merch), to chat about the current one (new album By Design due out on 4th July 2024 via Earache Records), and then onto our focus regarding mental health.
There is some good advice in here from Ian, who deals with long Covid and the headspace issues that stem from it. To quote the man himself, “I experienced severe depression, paranoia and almost schizophrenia where at times I didn’t even recognise myself.”
The video we talk about a lot in the interview is the one for “Mind”. Trigger warning, there are some potentially upsetting scenes in this video which relates to suicide.
Worth checking out (and my apologies for misnaming them in the interview) are Metal For Good, and MIND. Both very different organisation, both doing wonderful work.
