#RoadToBOA2018 – Valafar

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 9th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Valafar – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Saturday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Valafar are based in Keighley/Bradford area of West Yorkshire.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We were formed in 2013. Five years ago.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Valafar is a demon, a duke of Hell. We just thought it made a cool evil name for a death metal band even though the subject matter of our lyrics has since shifted more towards Norse mythology we stuck with the name because we like it.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music is a mixture of traditional death metal, Viking death metal and a bit of doom for good measure. Can’t think of any other UK band that sounds anything like us. Fairly unique in the UK I’d say.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

When we perform live we like to keep the attention of our audience on us by putting on a professional show. Our vocalist likes to interact with the crowd by having them shout and sing along to parts of the songs.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

I have been to Bloodstock every year since 2007 and the other guys have also been several times too. It’s awesome! always a great variety of bands from all genres of metal.

So how does it feel to be invited to play the one and only Bloodstock?

We are honoured to be asked to play Bloodstock. This is massive for us.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Our setlist is going to be a mixture of tracks from our new album Wolfenkind and a few oldies.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Judas Priest and Cannibal Corpse.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are currently rehearsing for the live shows we having coming up this year plus promoting the new album as much as possible.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

Nothing to report really on that front. Quite well behaved!

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon?

Most of Valafar are ale drinkers so we would have to choose Hobgoblin.
