Band of the Day: Pointed Mutation

Coming to you all the way from Iran (spoilers for the first question), we’ve got your latest daily band fix!

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Iran, I live in Sari, northern part of Iran and other members are from Tehran.

How did you meet?

I have met Saleh and Sina through their other bands, I came up and told them I have an idea to start a death metal band, then after listening some demos they liked the stuff and joined me in Pointed Mutation. We have another Ali, he plays bass and joined later.

How long have you been playing as a band?

It’s about 1 year, we officially started working in 2019.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Pointed Mutation is adapted from “Point Mutation”. It’s a genetic term that refers to a mutation where a single base pair in DNA is altered, causes that DNA to be different from the normal type gene sequence. We thought this term would suit band’s world.

What are your influences?

Early Decapitated, The Faceless, Revocation, Psycroptic, Archspire, Necrophagist, Devin Townsend

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We don’t present monotonous death metal, we really try to keep on the groove moments and combine them with technical aspects of extreme music. To be unique is very important to us.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

We talk about innermost struggles that every human being can have, the struggles that lead into implosion and metamorphosis.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We haven’t had a chance to play live yet, although there were some requests to perform live shows in Tehran but due to the pandemic it has been cancelled. The band is willing to do live shows in Iran and also other countries.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Schecter guitars, EMG pickups, Ibanez basses, Tama drums, Istanbul Mehmet cymbals

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We are promoting our debut EP, Engineering the Unhuman, it was released on May 20, 2020.

What are your plans for the rest of 2020?

To sign with a record label and start writing our first full length.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

I would really like to open for Decapitated and any sick death metal band to get opened by.

Hope so. Hell, we pretty much hope every band we cover goes far!
