Band of the Day: Lectern

Italian death metal. That’s like death metal with class and history. Lectern contacted us a while ago with news of their recent album, Precept of Delator, so we decided to throw a few questions at them in return for listening to it. I think we got the better end of the deal… You can stream the whole thing on YouTube, check out a video from it below or order it from their online store.

Singer and bassist Fabio Bava took the time to answer our Band of the Day questions…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Rome, fucking Italy.

How did you meet?

Surfing and advertisements!

How long have you been playing as a band?

Since 1999.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

From a pulpit.

What are your influences?

1990’s Florida death metal.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Intense fury!

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Satan!

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Countless! Lectern’s gigs are sheer evil!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

The audience asked an encore, the venue was full of drunk motherfucking sweating metalheads, and I began blaspheming. People answered screaming, then I began throwing a crucifix into the crowd! It suddenly disappeared or got broken, maybe under someone’s feet! Who knows?

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

ESP/B.C. Rich basses and guitar, Shure microphone, Marshall cabinets, Jackson guitars.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We will record our new album in December, issue planned for March of the next year.

What are your plans for the rest of 2017, into 2018?

A couple of shows, and scheduled recording sessions.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

So far, Lectern must open for Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse. Opening act, I choose Perfidy Biblical.

From previous Band of the Day Diamond Black: Which song of yours was the most challenging to finish writing and why?

“Palpation Of Sacramentarian” because this song stresses about paedophile priests! Watch also the video we tracked in a theater.

From another BotD, Requiem Laus: What’s the metal scene like in your country?

Italian bands kick ass! Let’s speak about Necrodeath, Bulldozer, Raw Power and Extrema.

And from Core of iO: What is your view on streaming services such as Spotify as a band/artist breaking through? And do you think it helps or hinders developing artists?

Absolutely! We are heading into 2018, and nowadays you can switch your laptop and mobile on, hearing old and new stuff. Lot of instant news maybe helpful to discover unknown or brand new bands! Check!
