Gig Review: Dabs / A Higher Demise / Scars Of Sense / Atravion / Call Of Fenrir / Struck/Down – Leo’s Red Lion, Gravesend (29th August 2021)

Metal is back at one of Kent’s most prolific venues, Leo’s Red Lion, thanks to local promoter/artist Andi Oates, of the band Scars of Sense.

The lineup featured Dabs of Jukebox Monkey performing an amazing solo acoustic set which kick-started the evening off with some mellow tunes, before Kent-based metalcore band, A Higher Demise rocked the stage with an uplifting and energetic performance which kept the crowd wanting more. Up next was Scars of Sense, this was their first gig in nearly two years, and they graced the stage with their unique gritty folk sound that always captivates the audience, and always draws a crowd in.

Up next was Atravion, who were playing their third ever gig. For a band that has only played a few times, they were very impressive, bringing great energy and atmosphere to the stage. Call of Fenrir, a Viking metal band from southeast London was next to “raid” the stage, bringing epic tales from Norse mythology to life through their sound. Crowd participation seemed to be a big part of their set with the vocalist venturing into the crowd at may times.

Last but not least were headliners Struck/Down, recent Metal 2 the Masses Kent 2021 winners, fresh back from their set at Bloodstock 2021, who were determined to bring the best show possible. As always Struck/Down did not disappoint, and had the venue fully packed bringing only the best energy and atmosphere as well as a strong as ever narrative to go along with their setlist.
