EP Review: From Ruins – Inner Demons

Three songs is not a lot to get your message across, so if that’s what you have then you better make the most of it. Inner Demons is the debut EP release from Irish 5-piece From Ruins… and they use those three songs very well indeed.

“Hate Me” is the most recent single, with a video being released a few days ago. Scroll down and enjoy its crunchy guitars, earworm opening rhythm and angry vocals. It’s fairly easy going compared to the more abrasive “Damnation” which follows. I think this is the only song not already released, and it’s the kind of thing that will open pits on any dancefloor. Big gig, small gigs, festivals, weddings… it doesn’t matter. Chaos will ensue.

“Running Away” was made available a couple of months ago, and it has more of a “groove” feel than its two brethren. No less effective for it, it also features some clean vocal harmonies to mix things up.

What really sells this little collection of songs is the production. As well as just being good songs played well, they really thump and crash out of the speakers. As I said, if you’re going to have three songs then you better make sure they’re good… and these are. If From Ruins can ensure they don’t fall into the “making the same three songs over and over” trap then we hopefully have the start of a very good, and very heavy, journey for them.
