100-Word Review: Trash Boat – Look Alive (EP)

Trash Boat - Look AliveTrash Boat are a young band from Hertfordshire who are on the cusp of releasing their debut EP. Look Alive is a four-track, due out on June 23rd. Following in the footsteps of the likes of SUM 41, the band play pop-punk.

Four tracks is enough to get a flavour for a band. Can they produce good music without repetition? Are they ripping off anyone else? Are they actually any good?

Trash Boat’s debut non-opus manages to answer all these questions. No, they’re not repetitive. The songs each stand out, are distinctive and vary nicely in pace. I prefer “Lock-in”’s speedier delivery to the other three. While their sound is definitely reminiscent, they’re not trying to be SUM 41. They share a genre and there’s inevitable similarity, but no rip-off.

Yes, they’re good. So one more question… when do we get more?

Track 2 from the EP, “Boneless”, is below to give you a sample.
