In a powerful display of solidarity, the Scottish metal scene is coming together this Friday for Estebash, a benefit gig aimed at saving the life of a beloved community member. Stephen Martin, also known as Esteban Martinez or simply “Stevo” to friends, is battling end-stage kidney failure due to polycystic kidney disease. After a 44-year fight, Stevo urgently needs a living kidney donor to survive.
In response to this dire situation, Stevo has organized “Estebash,” an event designed to raise awareness about his need for a kidney donor, as well as to raise funds for essential medication. This gig represents a crucial effort to save his life. Set to take place this Friday at Ivory Blacks in Glasgow, Estebash promises an unforgettable night of metal music for a cause that hits close to home for many. The event will feature a powerful lineup including The Starry Wisdom Cult, Tantrum, H8TEBALL, Crusaders, and headliners Titan Breed. Doors open at 6 pm, and the first band takes the stage at 6:30 pm. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to catch all the performances. A minimum donation of £5 is required for entry and further details can be found on the Facebook event.
In a further show of support, Tantrum, one of the bands performing at Estebash, has funded and produced a limited run of 100 CDs featuring tracks from the Scottish metal scene. The CDs are available for £10 each, with the goal of raising at least £1,000 to support Stevo’s medical needs. These CDs can be purchased online until noon on Thursday from their website and will also be available to buy at the merch stand during Friday’s event.

Mark Reid, Tantrum’s vocalist, explained their motivation:
We decided that simply playing wasn’t enough and thought about what we could possibly do to raise more money. “What about CDs?” We thought. If we cover the costs of having 100 CDs be made and we hand them over to Esteban to sell at the gigs, then there’s the potential to raise another £1000. Better still… what if those CDs also included a QR code where people could donate extra if they felt like it? So that’s what we’ve done.
The CD compilation features an impressive roster of Scottish metal bands:
- Catalysis – “A New Way to Die”
- Cerberon – “Black Gate”
- Deadfire – “Anxiety Society”
- Dog Tired – “Flesh Church”
- GunPoint X – “Guns Guns Guns”
- H8TEBALL – “Undead”
- Inferiem – “The Fall”
- Monkey Puzzle – “Boomslang”
- Nocturne Wulf – “Hell’s Heart”
- Six Year Silence – “Wonderland”
- Tantrum – “Valhalla”
- The Colony – “Soul Saviour”
- The Starry Wisdom Cult – “Chokoji”
- Titan Breed – “Legacy”
- We Make Mammoths – “Charlie’s Mansion”
