As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 9th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Luna’s Call – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Lincoln, UK.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Just over six years, however this year we’ve become a four piece with the addition of recruiting the very talented Liam Underdown on guitar.
Where does the name of the band come from?
Originally the name emerged from a concept story/idea that was to be a part of one of our albums, however with time the concept was shelved but the name remained. The simplest explanation would be the sound and voice our moon.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Progressive death metal, which is still a rather vague description as to what we sound like. We’ve taken inspiration from many different bands and genres and created something we hope is unique. Our love for old school death metal all the way through to newer tech bands with inclusions from older progressive rock bands like Camel, Genesis and Rush, we feel we can enjoy writing music without the fear of boundaries and limitations.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our live performances showcase the bands technical and musical ability and how we have worked tirelessly over the years to craft a show that is extremely tight, aggressive and emotionally intense.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
This will be our 10th year attending Bloodstock and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate that milestone than to being able to play the festival.
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it?
Even though we weren’t the winners of our M2TM region, the judges and Rob Bannister were so impressed by us they have invited us to play.
Which region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
M2TM Lincolnshire.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
The setlist we have put together for Bloodstock includes something for everyone. We’re hoping it takes the viewer and listener through a journey of genres and a plethora of emotions, from epic and hauntingly beautiful to crushingly brutal and technical.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Gojira, Septicflesh, Power Trip and Conjurer.
What are you working on at the moment?
We have just finished recording the bass parts for our next album, we’re hoping for it to be released later 2018 but very excited for it. Amongst recording, we have plenty more upcoming shows around the UK.
Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Red Bull, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
Hobgoblin.

Out of all the bands in their heat. Luna’s call were quite clearly the best. It was a bit strange that they didn’t win. Aggressive and technical. They really took you on a journey. Really looking forward to seeing them again at bloodstock.
