#RoadToMetalDays2018 – Splinterbomb

Always aiming to put the smaller / less well known bands front and centre, welcome to our series featuring acts on the New Forces stage at this year’s Metal Days festival in Slovenia, as well as a couple of bands who are being featured for a second time having trodden the boards of that stage in earlier years. We’ll be there with them and hopefully will catch as many of them live as possible so we can tell you how good they are! Tickets for the five-day (plus warmup!) event are still available for around £135. It takes place in Tolmin, Slovenia, from July 21st to 28th.

What is your band’s name and where are you from?

Our band’s name is Splinterbomb and we’re from the Netherlands.

When did you first find out about Metal Days?

That’s actually a cool story! Of course we knew the festival from stories we heard and images of this river full of metalheads on a festival that seemed to be a true vacation.

But in 2013 our guitarist played on Metaldays when he was Legion of the Damned’s live guitarist. He obviously had a great experience in Tolmin and is proud to return with Splinterbomb.

How did you end up on the bill for this year’s festival?

A good friend of our band visited Metaldays and applied a form together with a CD. No guts no glory, right? And all of a sudden we received a mail from Črt Batagelj, telling us we were selected and invited to play at the New Forces Stage.

Is this the furthest you’ll ever have played from home and/or the biggest gig you’ve ever played? If so, what was the furthest/biggest before now?

Yes, this is the furthest away from home. Not sure if this is gonna be the biggest gig, it depends on the number of people attending while we play. But yes, this is definitely the largest event we’ve been involved in yet!

Which bands on the bill are you most looking forward to seeing?

We play on Thursday the 26th which is also the day Hatebreed and Judas Priest are playing. We’re looking forward to those bands very much. Also, the day after Primordial will play. The strong atmosphere in their live shows is something special too. And of course we’re curious about Alien Weaponry. They have a lot of attention lately, so let’s hope they kill it on stage too.

Other than bands, what are you most looking forward to about Metal Days?

All the good things this festival has to offer! Meeting up with old friends and friends we don’t know yet, drinking a good beer or a cocktail, hanging in the river and waking up hungover but with a smile.

Before you hit the stage: Monster energy drink or Laško beer?

Laško beer for sure! I’m sure we haven’t seen the Lašk of it!
