Band of the Day Interview: Incentives

Incentives logo 192What better way to present a Band of the Day than to get them to tell us all about them in their own words. Today we present to you Australia’s Incentives. Check out the wordage, and their new single “Corrode” below.

Where are you guys from?

We are scattered all of over Melbourne, Australia.

How did you meet?

Well Max (Guitar), Kyle (Vocals) and Rory (Guitar) all met in Primary school / high school. After their previous bassist left, Rory recruited Jeremy as they were doing the same university course. Joe (Drums) actually recently joined about 8 months ago after their old drummer left.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

It was actually our third year anniversary since playing our first show back in 2013 just a few days ago!

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Honestly, we needed a name for our first show, and it was meant to be a temporary name until we found something more substantial. However, we just never changed it and it became a part of us.

What are your influences – individually or as a band?

I think our biggest influences as a band are probably Volumes, Counterparts and Erra.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I guess we really strive to cross the characteristics of heavy music with a more melodic hardcore approach, and even in the way we structure vocal patterns it’s influenced by genres outside of the heavy scene.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

On our EP Dusk, we have tried to paint a picture of the mentality behind relationships and the feelings that follow. So to put it simply, it’s all about girls.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Gosh I can’t tell you how many shows we have played in the three years that we have been a band, but lately we have been really striving to put on high-energy shows, and getting a bit more crowd interaction.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Not too sure about wild, but we had a couple kissing each other rather vigorously for a good portion of our set one night!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Drums: Our drummer actually uses a custom maple kit that his old man built.

Guitars: Guitars: Both our guitarists run digitally straight into the desk using POD HD500Xs. Max plays a Schecter Blackjack ATX C-7 and Rory plays an ESP LTD.

What are your plans for 2016?

Well after we release our EP on June 30th we plan to do an Australian tour throughout July/August. After that we will just try to carry on the momentum and get out to as many states as possible, alongside start working on our next release.

If you could be part of any 3-band line-up (as support or headlining) who else would you have on the bill?

Oh well if we are talking internationally, playing with bands like Erra or Invent Animate would be very cool!
