Freefall are a five-piece from the south of England who recently released their new EP. You can stream / download it for free (or a nice donation) via bandcamp.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re from Gloucestershire! Most of us are from Gloucester but a couple are form Cheltenham.

How did you meet?

We pretty much all met at college. Callum (guitar) and Ryan (guitar) had been friends since school and so had Ben (drums) and Elin (vocals). We all ended up going to Gloucestershire college, all studying music of course, started jamming and found Jack (Bass)!

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We properly became a five piece in March 2014, so been about a year and four months.

What are your influences – individually or as a band?

Hmm. We have some bands that we are collectively inspired by, such as Tonight Alive, All Time Low.. Then we have our separate inspirations like Ben loves State Champs, Callum loves Parkway Drive and Ryan loves Taylor Swift!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

When ever we’re asked what genre we play, we’re never sure how to answer! We can go from playing super pop punk tracks like “Reality Scares Me”, to our more alt rock head banging tunes like “Extraordinary”. We feel like that in itself makes us unique, that we play a range of music where hopefully something for everyone! ( or we hope so anyway haha! )

Your debut EP – Rather Be Alive – came out in April. How did you fund it – hard slog or crowd-funding?

Definitely hard slog! We got lucky though! We met our good friends All Ears Avow who play locally too and the singer, Claire, has a studio. She liked our music and offered to record two songs for free. Once we’d recorded with her and heard the mixes we decided to pay her so we could finish the EP! We all pitched in, and selling merch helps too, but it was worth the money.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We like to use the term ‘fuck shit up’ a lot at our shows. Because that’s what we like to do! Our show is full of pop punk jumps, head banging, bass slides and powerful vocals. One thing we pride ourselves on is stage presence and crowd participation, we like to think we can get everyone going. And god! We’ve played so many! We’ve basically played gigs none stop since we started!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Elin uses a Seinheiser E935 mic (it’s bright green!) and an ultimate support live ST mic stand. Callum and Ryan both use Orange cabs but Callum mainly uses his LTD EC256 with his Marshal JCM900 head, Ryan also has an LTD but an EC1000 and his Orange TH30 head. Jack has a Sterling SUB4 bass and an Orange bass combo. Drum-wise Ben has a custom AD Drums 4 piece kit with Paiste cymbals.

What is your next priority with the EP now out?

Our next priority is tour tour tour! We went on a small 4/5 day tour in April just after the release but we wanna focus on doing a bigger one this time, maybe 2/3 weeks. We’re in the process of planning it now, hopefully all turns out well!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done live/on tour?

Hmm.. We’re too scared to be too wild! Haha! While on tour we did fuck up a Travel Lodge a little bit to make our music video. We may have broken a bed or two… and a shower. But they don’t need to know that!

If you could be part of any 3-band line-up (as support or headlining) who else would you have on the bill?

Ah that’s a tough one! Tonight Alive and State Champs because, why the fuck not!
