It’s been six whole years since we featured Empire Warning as a Band Of The Day (as this feature was back then). So what on earth have they been up to in all that time? Fortunately we have just the set of questions to ask them…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
West and South London.
How did you meet?
Ben and Elsio were part of a youth music project together, Ben met Adam through our former guitarist and started Empire Warning, Grant came along through a Gumtree ad (sketchy we Know, our mothers told us not totally to strangers) and Jordan we met as we gigged the London Metal Scene
How long have you been playing as a band?
13 years, but in this lineup – 4 years.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
God, we wish it was a unique clever story but we got so frustrated looking for a name we started spouting random things we saw, Black cab, Bus Stop, Discarded Sandwich whilst we were on Shepherds Bush Green. Elsio Said Empire Warning Whilst next to a warning sign by Shepherds Bush Empire… it’s basically the longest running temporary name in the game.
What are your influences?
Motorhead, Lamb of God, Devin Townsend, Slipknot, Thin Lizzy and Mastodon… it’s very eclectic in our camp.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
It’s the actual crafting of what is old and modern, a song writing sensibility that is nostalgic yet new.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Life in general, experiences on the current EP Destiny (TBR 29.03.2024) have actually been really heavy in a journey of catharsis by Elsio.
What’s your live show like?
High energy, sore neck inducing and friendly as hell. We pride ourselves on the safe environment we like to create. How many shows have you played? Jeez we lost count

A lady headbanged so hard her wig flew off… and let’s say her top wasn’t very secure.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Our next EP Destiny, due out 29.03.2024.
What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?
To build our online presence, gig around the UK, Play London Metal Coalitions Co-Fest 31 August – 1st December and follow up on booking negotiations for a possible US East Coast Tour.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
