Band of the Day: Revolted Masses

Monday seems like the perfect day to serve you up a nice slice of noisy Greek heavy metal…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Hello! We are Revolted Masses from Athens, Greece.

How did you meet?

We were friends actually, before forming the band. The music part came naturally as a result of hanging out together, listening to music, etc.

How long have you been playing as a band?

For about 12 years. Although we feel like we just started yesterday.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

We believe that people have the power to make a change. If the masses realise their true potential, our society can grow so much more, with less suffering in the world.

What are your influences?

Mainly bands like Lamb of God, Sylosis, Trivium. They are so many as we do listen to many bands from various genres.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Death/thrash metal would be most appropriate. There is a unique touch of oriental elements that we try to inject into our music.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Our lyrics are mainly of a radical and political nature. What concerns us individually will eventually find its way to our lyrics.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We try to take care of everything. So, both the stage presence and the quality of our sound must be 100% there. Revolted Masses have performed in various live music venues and festivals around Greece, we’ve lost count! Probably more than 50-60 shows.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

There was a time that we had to play a show with no monitors/wedges at all. Not even for our vocalist. At another show, we had to go to the local police station because the neighbors were complaining about the loud music! Many things that don’t have to do with music as well, but these are better left untold.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

We tend to change our gear a lot over the years. And it also depends whether we are on a live or a studio situation, but we do bring our own gear to most of our shows.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Well, we just released Rise, our third full-length album. We also released an official music video called “Drown in Apathy”. You can check everything on our YouTube channel.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

The whole thing with the quarantine has also affected Greece, so live shows will have to wait for a bit. But we do plan to release several playthrough videos in order to promote “Rise”. We also have plans for a live recording in the near future.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We would really like to tour with Gojira. We’ve seen them live and they are a massive influence with amazing songs. We would bring Aetherian with us, a great melodic death band from Greece, who also happen to be good friends of ours.
