Band of the Day: Trigger Cut

Fancy something noisy to kick off the week? Of course you do.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We three guys from Trigger Cut are from Munich and Stuttgart. Both cities are in the wild south of Germany, where you can eat Spätzles, Maultaschen and drink the best beer.

How did you meet?

We’ve known each other since the 90s. Before Trigger Cut, all of us were located and worked in the noise rock scene of Germany and played in different bands. After the demise of my former band, Buzz Rodeo, in April 2018, the guys called me to form a new band.

How long have you been playing as a band?

Trigger Cut was found in May 2018. Because of the great distance between Munich and Stuttgart we can’t rehearse as often as we want to. However, from our start until now we have written 10 songs which you can hear on our debut LP, Buster. Buster’s official release was on May 2019.

What are your influences??

I would say that we all love post-punk and noise rock, and hardcore out from the 80/90s. Also influences of today’s bands (Hoaries/ The Hand/Cherubs/Unsane) are involved in the mixture of Trigger Cut. We love art punk and experimental stuff as well: This Heat, Pop Group and so on. Main influences, especially for me, are The Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Rapeman and The Gang of Four.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Trigger Cut is a high explosive conglomerate of fantastic great musicians. Raw energy, high delayed clean guitar, chunky bass lines and tremendous good drumming. Catchy and noisy songs at the same time. A request show behind closed doors without exit. A certain blast of feelings.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

The abysses and perversions of the human soul. Surreal dreams and fictive characters. Sometimes also hidden political issues. It is a great lyrical meeting with sometimes sensible topics , nonsense, comics and sometimes clear facts. It’s noise rock, nothing more.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Our live shows are extremely loud as fuck and intense. Our focus was on recording Buster as soon as possible. Before Trigger Cut we all played hundreds of shows with other bands all over Europe.

What`s the wildest thing you have seen or done at a live show?

We have no time for wild things and have to play our instruments! Ok, sometimes I just let myself fall down on the stage floor. Once I was with my head a few inches away from my guitar speaker box on the floor. I thought my skull was split! The wildest thing I’ve ever seen is David Yow. He’s totally insane and sometimes naked on stage.

What kit do you use/guitars do you play?

I am playing an old Marshall JMP or sometimes Musicman amps. And I prefer my old modified Fender Stratocaster.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

At the time we are only promoting our debut album on the social networks. We are totally DIY and waiting for a good label deal. Labels – please call us!

Despite the DIY fact, you can only buy our LP/CD on our own Trigger Cut Bandcamp site. We have no distribution service. We are shipping worldwide for a very good price.

What are your plans for 2019?

Playing shows on the whole Planet Earth and of course writing songs for the second Trigger Cut LP.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We would like to play with Shellac, Cherubs, Unsane, Daughters or the The Jesus Lizard.

Open for us? I would say there are many bands which we like… This is Wreckage would be cool, and of course Lardo from Chicago. But there are tons of bands that would fit for us.
