Band of the Day: Faminehill

Saturday is a good day. It’s about to get better with another new band for you to check out, all the way from Hungary…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Hungary! 3 out of 5 of us are currently living in Miskolc, and 2 in Budapest, but it’s really not a problem for us, we can handle it well.

How did you meet?

We all met through music related stuff. Adam, Zsolt, Gergely and me were living in the same area and we all had bands before Faminehill, we used the same rehearsal room and played shows together and things like that. Milan came in a few years later, he had a band before too. Metal music brought us together.

How long have you been playing as a band?

It’s 6 years now.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Well, Faminehill is an existing thing here in Hungary. There is a small village called Nagykallo. Back in 1780, the village suffered from famine, and asked help from a signiory, who decided to help them out, but in return, he asked the citizens to build him, literally a hill. As in, man-made, an artificial one just for him. They call that hill Faminehill.

What are your influences?

Almost everything, not just music but every little thing that happens to us inspires us to write music and do our thing. Sometimes it’s a bad event in our personal lives, sometimes it’s a good record from some band, could be a pop artist or metal, it doesn’t matter.

Describe your music. What makes you unique, do you have any particular lyrical themes?

I always say it’s aggressive and melodic. That is what we love, and that is what works the best for us, it’s always a good way to express our emotions. We mostly write about personal things and thoughts, stuff we feel uncomfortable to tell people, so we express those feelings through our music.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

I really hope it’s as energetic as we feel it. For us, it’s like pure love and happiness. We played a couple hundred shows over the last 5 years and we really want to play as much as we can in the future.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Our bassist Adam used to throw his bass guitar in the drumkit at the end of shows, almost killing our drummer Zsolt. He is the most crazy person on the stage, he scares me a lot!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Zsolt plays a Natal drumkit right now, with Meinl and Zildjian cymbals. Gergely and Me are playing the same Ltd Telecaster which I really really love, with Peavey 6505’s. For Adam, he is planning on a new bass, but hasn’t quite decided on which one yet.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We have a record coming out this April, it’s called Ascend. There are 2 singles released now, “Ruin” and the latest is “Torn” with a music video. Ascend is coming April 5th, we are really excited about it.

What are your plans for 2019?

After the album release, we want to play as many shows as we can. We want to get to places where we’ve never been, and we want to go back to places we already played.
