There’s no reason to fear our next Band of the Day:
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Zaz (Vocals): We say Wolverhampton as it’s the middle point of where we’re all individually from.
How did you meet?
Phil (Bass): I met Ste at work.
Ste (Guitar): I Met Andy and Zaz at school all those years ago.
Zaz: We met Rich on a dating website … I mean a musician advertising page.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Andy (Drums): Oh man, a long time! Me, Ste and Zaz since we were 15!
Rich (Guitar): Yeah but me and Phil joined about 18 months ago so this lineup has been going since then.
Zaz: Yeah this band is a mutation of things over the last 16/18 years or something like that and has matured into what it is today.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Zaz: Anxiety and depression touches the lives of everyone these days and it’s affected some of us and our families. It was my wife who actually came up with the name and it just fit and felt right. It fits with the theme of anxiety really well.
What are your influences?
Zaz: We are really influenced mainly from modern American rock and we have a lot of combined influences there but then we all have stuff that we are all into separately.
Andy: Yeah like jazz.
Ste: Or video game music.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Rich: Us! Melody is the most important thing to me though.
Zaz: We’re all about the melodic feel with heavy bits.
Ste: We try not to go for anything, in particular, we just come together and what comes out people seem to really like, which we love!
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Zaz: I like to write a story about whatever I’m feeling at the time or if I get an idea really, I like to take my time and build on it.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Ste: Has this line-up played 10 yet? It’s between 5 and 10 maybe? We try and bring a lot of energy and fun. It’s loud – Andy is the hardest hitting drummer I’ve ever met!
Rich: You’ve only met 1 drummer though!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Phil: Ibanez 5 string bass – SR705 – Trace Elliott SP1200SMX, 4×10 and 1×15 amp.
Ste: I’ve got a Fender Jim Root Telecaster but with Seymour Duncan’s instead of the EMGs, Marshall JVM410h into an oversized Orange 2×12 closed back cab. I’ve got the new Orange compressor on my pedal board along with the usual Boss Delay and stuff.
Zaz: I’ve got the Shure SM58 Beta Mic and the Shure in-ear monitors.
Rich: I’ve got a PRS Tremonti guitar with a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec Roadster.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Zaz: Our new single, “Broken”. It’s coming out September 7 and the video should be out soon. Along with our headline show at Cannock September 8 at The Station.
What are your plans for 2018, into 2019?
Zaz: We want to finish the year strong with more gigs, we’re all booked up, we want to record a new song before the end of the year and into 2019 work on getting the video done and putting that out. After that, I think we’re going to write an EP.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Zaz: Glory Fades to open, awesome guys, then us supporting Alter Bridge.
Ste: Myles – give us a ring, mate!

Zaz: Kiss Prince, cos he’d like it.
Ste: And kill Mick Jagger, he’s pretty old anyway!
Phil: It wouldn’t take much then?
Ste: Nah, none of them can be killed by conventional weapons!

Rich: I’d say go back and find this band earlier!
Zaz: Don’t eat the Naga Chili Scratchings at the Giffard!
