Band of the Day: The Five Hundred

We’ve covered The Five Hundred in the past, with news of EP releases and videos. But who are they? Where are they from? Are there really five hundred of them? All is revealed below…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Mark & Andy are originally from Gibraltar, Paul is from Peterborough and John & Kelsey are from Nottingham.

How did you meet?

Tinder.

How long have you been playing as a band?

About 3 years.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

A journalist once described our sound on stage as if there were 500 of us on there… it stuck.

What are your influences?

We’ve all got different influences really but if you want some band names… Alice In Chains, Every Time I Die, The Haunted, Soundgarden, Pantera…

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’re a melodic metal band but that genre is thrown about too often. Not many bands merge the two very well.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Mostly life experiences – addiction, depression, death… all the good shit.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

I’d like to think we’re an exciting band to watch. We like to kick off and get as many people involved as possible. Haven’t got a number of shows…

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

One that springs to mind is when one of the venues we were at put on a buffet at the back of the room on a pool table. Halfway through the set John walked through the crowd, onto the pool table and started throwing sausage rolls back at us.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Mark plays an Agile 8 string guitar, Paul a custom ESP 8 string and Andy a Dingwall NG2.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Our first single “Smoke & Mirrors” from our forthcoming new album is out now.

What are your plans for 2018?

We’ve got another couple of videos/singles to release… some wicked shows to look forward to including UK Tech Fest & Macmillan Fest and our album Bleed Red is out on August 17th on Long Branch Records.
