In their own words, “from the asshole of Yorkshire” so I don’t get into trouble for taking the piss out of somewhere I lived for thirteen years. Valafar were formed early in 2013 as a bunch of friends jammed together and realised the sounds they were making weren’t bad at all.
Joined by a couple of other members, some of whom had played together in other bands before, Valafar worked on a few tracks of “Heavy as fuck Death metal” (their words again) in the style of Cannibal Corpse, et al. This isn’t the fast-paced stuff, this is slow, ponderous, guttural and grim.
As dark as the inside of an orc’s scrotum, Valafar released their debut EP on Feb 17th 2014. You can grab Ritual of the Diabolical from bandcamp (link below, along with a sample) for the princely sum of £2. In fact, buy ten copies. The singer’s getting married this year so he needs as much cash as he can get!
