Band of the Day: Crow Country Outlaw

Swedish bluesy punk ‘n’ country roll, anyone? You’ve come to the right place…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Jönköping, Sweden.

How did you meet?

Sebastian and Mattias are brothers, Adam and Mattias met in high school and Poods got to know Adam and Mattias through a friend.

How long have you been playing as a band?

We have been playing together for 3 and a half years now.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The band name came as a result of Sebastian taking a stroll through a forest with only the crows to keep him company.

What are your influences?

Our influences are all and many, but as a common denominator we have Kiss, Guns N’ Roses, Backyard Babies and Nirvana.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music is a mash-up of rock n roll, punk, country and blues which gives it a raw vibe with both deep emotion and groove. We are maybe not that unique in the way that we try to stand out musically or image-wise from the rest of the great bands out there, but we would dare to say that we possess the right grit and energy to equal ourselves to those bands that inspire, and has inspired, us over the years. This makes us unique in the sense that we are worth the money.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

We tend to walk between themes that are critiquing to what is currently wrong with the social and political structures and also some private, more personal experiences.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Our show is like an old school punk show, with a lot of energy onstage and a great contact with our audience. We try to include our audience in our shows as much as possible so that when they leave they do so satisfied.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

One of the wildest thing we’ve seen on a show must have been a friend of ours coming onstage and bashing his head on one of the cymbals in tempo with the song that we were playing. For the entire song, it should be mentioned.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Sebastian: Usually a Tokai, Les Paul model Gold Top with an Orange Dual Terror Top and a Marshall 4×12 cabinet. I also bring an overdrive pedal that a friend of mine at Evil Eye Effects built called “Crowbar”.

Mattias: A Yamaha RBX-7 modell, with an old Peavey combo we call “The Bastard”. And a Hohner harmonica.

Poods: Guitars: Richwood RE-595-MG, Eagle Sliderider, Yamaha SG700s, Furch D35-sr, Orange TH30 Top

Pedals: Fulltone OCD Overdrive, Boss TR-2 Tremolo, Mooer Reecho Delay, Dunlop Crybaby, Korg Tuner, Electro-harmonics Big muff Pi, Crow Country Outlaw picks.

Adam: My gear as a whole: cymbals: All around Sabian. 21″ AAX rawbell dry ride, 19″ HHX-treme crash, 18″ AAX-plosin, 16″ AAX-plosion crash, 19″ Vault Holy China, 10 HHX evolution splash on top of a 10″ Chopper stack.

Hardware: DW 9000 hi-hat stand, DW 9000 Snare stand, DW 5002 double pedal, DW 3900 double tom tom stand and 5 Pearl cymbal stands.

What are your plans for 2017?

To head on into the studio and record our second album, do some minor tours and shows and promote the new us. We are dead set on making this year our most productive to date!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We would like to support Black Stone Cherry and for the opening act we would love to see Dust Bowl Jokies.
