Band of the Day: Loimann

Loimann - Drowning Merged Tantras

[avatar user=”Mosh” size=”50″ align=”left” /]Loimann formed in 2001 in a very nice area of Italy. Their style is “slow”. Pick any downbeat genre or metal and they probably cover it to some extent – sludge, stoner, doom, electronica… they’re all in there.

Now, none of these genres are really my favourites. I prefer things a little more up-tempo. But, hey, part of the job of doing Band of the Day (and this site in general) is to listen to new stuff. I also bear in mind that I’m just one person and that for every band I don’t like, there’ll be dozens, hundreds or thousands of people who do like them (which explains how Bring Me The Horizon still manage to sell albums despite being shit).

However… Loimann aren’t bad at all. I’ve only listened to a couple of tracks – and I’ll be grabbing the recently releases Drowning Merged Tantras for review on the strength of them – but I’m impressed. The sound that Loimann creates is a perfect example of “the whole being greater than the sum of its parts”. Dark, heavy, haunting… Yes. Yes, I like this.

Take a few minutes (quite a few – their tracks are lengthy) and check them out through the links below. I’ll be back with a full album review sometime soon. Note that the embedded song below is actually from an older album and it’s every bit as good.
