Band of the Day: Lockersludge

Lockersludge - Drawing LessonsI’ll say one thing for metal – it throws up far better band names than any other musical genre (with rare exception). I mean what else could Lockersludge play other than grinding, heavy tunes?

They don’t disappoint, either. Their own description of “doom/sludge with a hardcore edge” can’t be argued with, though I’d say the hardcore sound is more than just an edge and probably overshadows the doom in my opinion. Not that it matters. It’s good stuff.

Lockersludge are based in Teignmouth which is down in the distant (from me) south west of England. They’re a three-piece with Andy on guitar, Brew on bass and Mark on drums and vocals (so his secret idol is obviously Phil Collins). Mark and Andy have actually been playing together in some for or other since 1993 so there’s a definite core unit there.

Since Lockersludge’s formation they’ve released three albums/mini-albums: In Living Fear in 2008, Falling On Our Faces in 2011 and the recent third outing Drawing Lessons which you can get from their Bandcamp page.

As with any band I feature here, they’re definitely worth a listen. Support the unsigned and if you like what you hear, throw them a few quid! The new album’s only three quid for a CD (including download) with download only as “name your own price”. Bargain!

Oh, they’re also on the lookout for gigs so if you’re round their area and want a decent band to play for an evening then give them a shout. They recently played a benefit gig for S.O.P.H.I.E. so they are well deserving.
