Good grief, where do we start today? So much to pick from! Here we go…
Type O Negative
On March 13th 2007, American gothic metal band Type O Negative released their seventh and final studio album, Dead Again (reissue out now). This year marks the 15th anniversary of the band’s final record before the passing of bassist/vocalist Peter Steele.
Type O Negative’s Kenny Hickey comments:
The first casualty of this album was the record company – which promptly went under after its release. Soon after, Peter passed, and then even the rehearsal studio it was written and developed in was burnt to the ground by Hurricane Sandy. As the black cloud continued its relentless path over Type O, Dead Again appeared and disappeared from the streaming platforms for years. Now that the storm has passed we have some slight hope of establishing a small illusion of permanence with this final release of Dead Again. We are sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused you.
Depuration

Vėlių Namai
Today we present “Saulės Kalvis” (‘The Sun’s Blacksmith’), the first single from Alkai, the fourth album from Lithuanian ritualistic dark-folk project Vėlių Namai, due for release on January 20, 2023. Alkai serves as an open invitation to experience the mystical world of the Baltics – to feel the sacredness of its ancient past.
“Saulės Kalvis” is about Teliavelis, a Baltic mythological god who – according to Baltic mythology – was the blacksmith who forged the sun. Afterwards, he put it in the sky to illuminate the earth and make the land fertile.
The video clip was shot at Kilkim Žaibu, a Baltic culture and extreme music festival which takes place during the summer solstice – the longest day of the year. In the Baltic tradition, the summer solstice (Rasos, Kupolės) marks a very important celebration.
The live performance features a symbolic blood sacrifice, as well as lighting of a symbol of the sun. The symbol then ignites the great bonfire, honouring the sun and the warmth it provides. It’s a celebration of the sun before the period when days become shorter and darkness starts to return.
