Sabaton complete 2023 tour lineup with Babymetal replacing The Hu

Sabaton’s 2022 tour was postponed (twice) due to reasons we all know by now. Lordi and The Hu were on the original, eclectic, bill but as often happens when tour dates are jiggled around, the new ones often clash with future commitments. Lordi have done some intermediate dates, but are still on the Sabaton tour lineup. The Hu, however, couldn’t manage the rescheduled dates for 2023 (they’re touring the UK imminently, though, if you want to see them), so Sabaton have drafted in insane Japanese teenie-bopper metallers Babymetal. One Asian band for another, and keeping the wide variety of styles on the tour package well and truly in place.

I confess, I was looking forward to seeing some kind of collaboration between Sabaton and The Hu (as they did with both Amaranthe and Apocalyptica the last time they played the UK), but the mind boggles as to what they’re going to get up to with Babymetal! Joakim did guest on one of their songs, so maybe we’ll see him take to the stage a set early? I’ve not seen the J-Metal band live before so I’m looking forward to it.

Anyway, that’s just my opinion. The official PR statement follows…

Swedish metal heroes Sabaton have revealed their special guests for the UK and European leg of their upcoming Tour To End All Tours. Japanese dance metal sensation Babymetal will appear as very special guests, marking their first international shows in over three years. Finnish Eurovision winners Lordi will open all shows.

“We are extremely happy to welcome Babymetal to our already much anticipated tour in Europe 2023,” says bass player Pär Sundström. “The energy and power of this band will for sure make each night something special.”

“If there ever was a band that would break all the rules, it’s Babymetal with the power and precision to deliver a full on heavy metal show!” echoes frontman Joakim Brodén. “It’s not our first rodeo together, expect nothing but excellence from Babymetal!”

Joakim participated as a guest on “Oh! Majinai (feat. Joakim Brodén)” on Babymetal’s third album Metal Galaxy released October 11th, 2018. He also made a guest appearance at Babymetal’s headline show in October 2018, at Japan’s extra show Dark Night Carnival.
