The rebranded Theory (formerly “…of a Deadman”) have just released a video for their cover of Chris Isaak’s classic “Wicked Game”. The track features on their recent album Wake Up Call and precedes their live three-date UK tour, the dates for which you can see below.
Swapping the original’s opening high-pitched notes for some at the complete opposite end of the scale, Theory’s version manages to maintain Issak’s ethereal tone while – as the song progresses – layering more and more on top. As a result, this is very much a different version in terms of production – the original is far more stark – but Tyler Connolly manages to hit all those high notes that are a defining point of Isaak’s classic.
Definitely worth a listen, Theory have created a cover that’s every bit as haunting as its source material.
