If you like it fast and loud then Beyond Salvation could well be the band for you. Today they pick up the Headline Act baton… and start hitting things with it. Very very loudly. We have chatted to the band before, as they headed to Bloodstock in 2021 and way back when they were young in 2017. It’s time for an update…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Arun: We are from Manchester, England, UK.
How did you meet?
Jon: I met Owen as he owns the studio Beyond Salvation practiced at before he even joined the band. I met Luke through Jay at the 0161 and Arun from the scene and other bands.
Arun: I met Jon through the band scene, Beyond Salvation had actually supported one of my old bands so we got in touch that way. I was blown away by them, and the fact they played thrash in E Standard, which is exactly what I wanted to do. I’d also commissioned Jon to do some artwork for a solo thing of mine. Then in around 2018 or so he asked if I wanted to jam with Beyond Salvation, as their lead guitarist had just left. The rest, as they say, is history!
How long have you been playing as a band?
Jon: It’s coming up to 9 years as Beyond Salvation, but as this line up around the 2 year mark now – and we’ve never been stronger.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Jon: Our old drummer came up with it and it might be from a Deicide song… but he didn’t listen to Deicide so no one is really sure!
What are your influences?
Arun: A healthy mix of Machine Head, Sylosis, Sepultura, Lamb of God.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Arun: We were once described as hardcore thrash. I quite liked that description! Maybe think of us as a mixture of Machine Head and Sylosis, but if it were sang by a Stockport version of Jamey Jasta.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Jon: Taking a negative and turning it into a positive would probably be a loose theme that runs though a lot of our songs.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Arun: These days they’re pretty good! It’s quite regular that we’ll get circle pits and people chanting our name, which feels amazing when you’re onstage. As a band, I’ve no idea how many shows we’ve played over the years, I’d hazard a guess at around 50-60.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Arun: I don’t know how “wild” it is, but one time the audience got down on the floor and pretended to row a boat during a breakdown riff. Apparently it was a bit of a trend?
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Jon – Jackson guitars, Fishman Fluence pickups, Line6 Helix, Orange cabinets, Shure microphones
Arun – Solar guitars, Line6 Helix, Engl amplifiers and cabinets, Shure microphones
Luke – Dingwall basses, Goliath FX, Darkglass pedals, Orange amplifiers and cabinets, Shure microphones
Owen – British Drum Company drums, Amedia cymbals, Pro Mark sticks
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Arun: Our latest EP A Line In The Sand, and a couple of T-shirts to go with it. All info can be found at on our socials and merch pages.
What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?
Arun: We have a few gigs booked, and we are recording the following up to A Line In The Sand. That is all I will say for now!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Arun: We’d love to support a band like Metallica, Machine Head or Sepultura. In terms of the opening band, we’ll go with a local band and say Deified [who we also interviewed in 2021, in 2020 and 2015! – Mosh]. Although there are tons we could choose from!
