All the way from the USofA, today’s Headline Act are about to embark on a huge run of dates through their native country in support of some of our in-house favourites. As always, get to the shows early and check out the band who’ll be headlining those venues in the future!
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Los Angeles, California USA.
How did you meet?
A chance meeting at a music store between Dave Bates and Margarita Monet began the Edge of Paradise story. Through mutual friends and other music connections, we get the current line-up of Margarita Monet (vocals), Dave Bates (lead guitar), David Ruiz (rhythm guitar), Jamie Moreno (drums), and Kenny Lockwood (bass).
How long have you been playing as a band?
Edge of Paradie has been a band for about 10 years
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Living in Los Angeles, people come here from all over the world to pursue their dreams/paradise. However, there is a dark side and it’s like you’re always on the edge between paradise and chaos.
What are your influences?
It varies between members. Everything from classical to industrial, traditional metal to modern metal, movie soundtracks to grunge, etc.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We like to say we’re a cinematic rock band as we strive to create music with a cinematic feel, incorporating keys, synths, and other elements beyond guitars, drums and bass. What sets us apart is Margarita’s unique voice and song writing. She is the creative force, writing and playing all of the piano and synth parts in addition to vocals.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Humanity as a whole, the future, science and technology, artificial intelligence, space, relationships, fictional characters and themes with real, human implications and metaphors.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We strive for a high energy live show and are always working to incorporate interesting visual elements like lights and laser elements, for example. We have toured in the UK and across Europe, Japan, and North America in addition to countless local shows.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Things don’t get too wild but I suppose it would be some of the end of tour pranks bands play on each other. The wildest one has to be a particular member of a band wearing a robe with nothing underneath and flashing the band playing on stage.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
ESP/LTD Guitars, Gibson Guitars, Jackson Guitars, Crush Drums, TRX Cymbals.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
New album Hologram + North America Tour with DragonForce, Amaranthe, and Nanowar of Steel.
What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?
North America Tour w/DragonForce – October 20 to November 19, 2023
Life After Death Horror Fest Mexico City – December 1, 2023
April/May US tour TBD
Writing/recording new music
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
We would love to support Ghost with our friends in Temple Balls (from Finland) or Carved (from Italy) as support!
