Band of the Day: Chaoseum

We’re bringing some Swiss metal to you today. Lausanne’s lovely, by the way. Nice architecture, great views, and apparently the music scene isn’t bad either…

Simple things first–where are you guys from?

We are from Lausanne, Switzerland.

How did you meet?

Loïc, Greg and I played together in a symphonic metal band called Elferya. CK, our singer, was Loïc’s friend.

How long have you been playing as a band?

Chaoseum was born in January 2018, but CK joined us in February 2019, just after our USA tour.

Before you get sick of being asked… Where does the band name come from?

Don’t worry, it’s a pleasure to answer this question! We searched for an original name in relation to our makeup and image. Chaoseum is the museum of chaos.

What are your influences?

We listen to a lot of metal bands. Our first album sounds between heavy metal and metalcore and the new one is close to bands like Korn, Trivium or Slipknot.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We are not unique. But we use different tonality and change our tuning. CK has a versatile voice. Our songs are various but still in a metal style of music. We also use cinema-inspired makeup.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

For the Second Life album, each song talks about a second life. Sometimes it is just sci-fi and sometimes about our personal experience. No politics or religion themes.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Our First Tour In Hell contains around 30 gigs in Europe, America and Asia. We try to play an energetic and theatrical show.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

For the last song, our singer asked the whole audience to sit and then to jump at the same time. It gave an incredible atmosphere until the end of this song.

What kit do you use /guitars do you play / etc.?

We use Solar Guitars with Skull strings and Vive wireless systems. Our drummer plays on SJC and Diril with Agner drumsticks.

What are your plans for the next 12 months?

The new album is out now. We have a release party the same day in Switzerland with 4-5 other gigs. Our European tour is postponed to fall 2021 due to COVID-19. We will also write new songs.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

My dream would be Iron Maiden. But I best to say opening one more time with Tarja (ex-Nightwish). We were on tour with Tarja’s and her band in September 2019, and all of them are really kind. That would be fantastic to meet them again. And as band before us, easy, I will take Dylem. Loïc and I also play in this band. But if I don’t want to make myself selfish I’ll choose Almost Human.
