Coming at you from across the pond, Divide the Fall have something to say.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Minneapolis, Minnesota – United States.
How did you meet?
Our guitar player, Jake, and bass player, Matt, went to high school together. We put out a Craigslist ad to find a singer and drummer which is where we would Ethan (vocals) and Jack (drums).
How long have you been playing as a band?
The band formed in Fall of 2017. We played our first show in Spring of 2018.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Around the time of the band forming there were, and continue to be, a lot issues that we, as a society, are facing on a daily basis. From racial and gender inequality to political divisiveness to stigmas surrounding mental health, it seemed as though we as people were turning against one another and that as a human race we were in a really divided state. The idea behind the band name was our way of saying that if we don’t change the course of our own history, ultimately, we will fall back into repeating the same mistakes we’ve made before. Our band loves people from every walk of life and we want to use our platform to spread an idea of inclusiveness and hope for a better future.
What are your influences?
We have a lot of various influences, but we feel our music is most influenced by bands like Breaking Benjamin, I Prevail, Slaves, Wage War, Too Close To Touch.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We feel that our music is a good blend of hard rock/radio friendly active rock while also showing some heavier post- hardcore and metalcore influences.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
We’ve written songs about struggles with mental illness such as depression/suicidal thoughts, addiction as well as we have written songs about the state of world we live in, personal experiences with heartbreak, etc.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We try to bring the energy for sure! You’ll have to come out to a show to find out. At this point we have probably played around 80 shows.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Nothing really stands out that we can think of at the moment. Our shows do get wild, but everyone’s usually really respectful.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
We uses Tama drums, PRS and ESP guitars, and Music Man basses.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We just released a new single called “I Won’t Fade Away” a couple of months ago. That is on Spotify, Apple Music, and pretty much everywhere you can stream music. We also have an official music video for it on YouTube.
What are your plans for 2019?
We are planning to release some new music and have plans to tour a lot more. We are excited to be getting out to some different parts of the country where we have never been before.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
We’d love the opportunity to open for A Day To Remember. As far as another band to be the opener, we would say this band from Minneapolis called The Failsafe. They are great dudes with awesome music.
