It’s Saturday… time to get noisy with your new Band of the Day!
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re a pretty international band, with members originating from the UK, Germany, Sri Lanka, Hungary and the USA. Right now we’re all based in and around Cambridge, UK.
How did you meet?
Through various Internet forums and Facebook groups.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Around 2 years. Probably closer to 1 with the current lineup.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Joél is a big fan of God is an Astronaut. They have a beautiful song and album titled Far From Refuge. The name invokes a feeling of isolation and helplessness which we definitely played on in our first EP.
What are your influences?
Everything from pop to death metal. Our influences are massively varied which helps keep our music interesting. Some bands we like are Tesseract, Wintersun, Bring Me The Horizon, Killswitch Engage and Dance Gavin Dance.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We combine elements of metalcore and melodic death, and aren’t afraid of venturing in to different genres.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
In our latest release we explore themes like strength through adversity, greater meaning in our lives, the failures of humanity, and even things like aliens and warrior queens!
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We have played around 15 shows since early 2018. We love to bring a lot of energy and movement to our performance, and want to give our fans an exhilarating stage show.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Probably causing physical pain whilst accidentally hitting each other with our instruments. And as a new band, suddenly seeing an audience member sing the lyrics to a song!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
- Joél: LTD MH1001 and POD HD500x
- Suran: Shure SM58 mic + GLXD24 wireless unit
- Matt: Cort B5 and Line 6 Helix
- Akos: Mapex Mars Rock Kit, Meinl Cymbals, Pearl double pedal, Remo heads, Promark sticks
- Jonathan: Ibanez guitar and Line 6 Helix
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We’re still pushing our latest EP which was released in February. Make sure you check it out on your favourite streaming site or music store. Expect a couple more things relating to that soon!
What are your plans for 2019?
Continue to play a lot of shows, release more music and have a great time!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
We’d love to support someone huge like Linkin Park. We’re good friends with the guys in Akkadian so would love to share the stage again with them.
