With a debut album to get excited about, it’s time for Acres to tell us all about themselves…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Originally we were Hampshire based but now are spread across Portsmouth, Southampton, London and Bridgwater.
How did you meet?
Mostly through other bands, I (alex) knew Theo from a band he used to play in. We asked Ben to join after hearing his old band. Konnor was recommended through another friend in a band.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Since 2015, we were finding our feet for a little while before that.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
We used to drive past a road called Longacres on the way to practice and we decided that Acres sounded cool.
What are your influences?
Over the years it’s definitely changed. It used to be a lot of post rock and metal bands. But in the last few years we’ve been jamming a lot of bands we loved when we were younger, bands like The Used, Thrice, Taking Back Sunday and Underoath.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Recently we’ve been described as cinematic post-hardcore and I think it’s a pretty good summary. I would never say that our sounds is unique because I think so many bands are pulling so many bands are pulling influence from so many other types of music and so are we.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Every single song on our debut album deals with something different so I guess the theme is just life and how Ben has dealt with the problems he’s faced.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
I wish I could answer this question but I’ve seen Acres live aha. I’d say energetic and honest. We’ve definitely played 100+ shows. We try and hit the road as often as we can.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
The weirdest thing I’ve seen is someone wrap our old tour manager’s pro gaff round another person’s neck in the middle of one of our songs. It wasn’t malicious, I think they were just getting carried away.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
For guitars is pretty much strictly Fenders. Pedals, we really like using Strymon’s stuff. We work with Victory and their amps are incredible. Konnor plays Natal Drums and uses Sabian Cymbals.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We just announced we’re releasing our debut album and released the title track “Lonely World”.
What are your plans for 2019?
We’re heading out with Casey on their Farewell tour and releasing our Debut album on August 9th!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Playing with Thrice would be a dream and we toured with Silent Planet at the end of last year, they were some of the nicest dudes that we have ever toured with; But in that case we’d have to play under them. They’re doing really well!
