Band of the Day: Backroads

Our final Band of the Day for 2018, so we had to make it a noisy one! Welcome Backroads…

Simple things first – where are you from?

Bristol UK.

How long have you been playing as a band?

Eddie and Alex made the idea for the band in college then Jack joined on the drums. Eddie knew Kyle outside college and we started playing shows together then here we are. Year and a half-ish. Our first show was in March 2017 at The Fleece in Bristol.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

A song called Backroads by Lonely The Brave.

What are your influences?

Casey, Being As An Ocean and Crooks.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We are more of a lyrically charged band, so the meaning of our songs are unique on its own.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Religion, relationships, mental health and the abuse of power.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

High energy and a lot of crowd interaction. 35 plus shows and counting, including two tours.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Eddie got on top of a really big PA speaker during our EP show. At our first show someone was wearing some strange vintage war outfit and he caked himself in fake blood and preached about how he was the king of the future. Oh, he was the vocalist of one of the other bands.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Schecter and Ibanez guitars with Omega pickups. We use Headrush pedalboards and Orange amps heads.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Our latest single, “A House For Casey”.

What are your plans for 2019?

For the rest of the year we’re focusing on writing new material. Then 2019 will be full on.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Headline, Architects. Open support, Fangs from Bristol.
