Band of the Day: Fatal Collision

Getting local, getting thrashy with our latest Band of the Day…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Glasgow, Scotland.

How did you meet?

We’ve all been friends for years. Hughes (vocals) had the idea of starting a thrash band and then met Grum (guitarist) who was looking for a band at the time. Then we got Ross (bassist) from a hardcore band called Damaged because they were about to split up. Den (drums) actually worked in the same studio as Grum and is the drummer for Kingpin so when we were looking for a drummer, Den volunteered. And Jacob was in the same class as Grum in college and agreed to join the band. There’s been a lot more variations of the line-up but it gets very complicated.

How long have you been playing as a band?

4 years! It took us so long to get a steady line-up and finally get some tunes down before we were able to record and gig.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

There’s no meaning behind, it Hughes just thought it sounded good.

What are your influences?

Municipal Waste, Exodus, Bad Brains, Anthrax, Sick of it All, Cro-Mags, Nuclear Assault and Lost Society (to name a few).

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

It’s real and we aren’t afraid to play what we want without pandering to what’s in trend.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Some songs are about drinking and partying other songs are about current affairs and issues. We like to mix satire with no nonsense punk lyrics but also not take ourselves too seriously because it’s meant to be fun… isn’t it?

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We’ve only played 2 shows but have more lined up. We like to have fun on stage and entertain the crowd.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Grum fell into the drumkit at our first gig because he got hammered before it. The crowd seemed to enjoy that.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Den has a Mapex V Series kit with the loudest snare drum ever, literally. Grum plays a Charvel So Cal Pro Mod…. Which is just a hot-rodded Strat, really. Jacob plays an Ibanez SA160 with the trem blocked and Ross has an Ibanez K5.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We just released 2 singles on Bandcamp (“Abomination” and “Bible Basher”).

What are your plans for 2018?

Get the word out there and start recording for our next release. We have gigs lined up for the next few months across Scotland, hopefully we start venturing further next year too.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Tempered opening (get on that hype, they’re sick) and Municipal Waste headlining.
