Band of the Day: Elswhere

We’re approaching a major milestone, but we’ll announce that a little later on in the month. In the meantime, here are the oddly-spelt Elswhere to tell you a little bit about themselves…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are based in Enfield, North London.

How did you meet?

Ethan and Jack began jamming together late 2016. We got in touch with Ben (drummer) via Facebook at the start of 2017. Matt (bass) came along in May ’17. He had known Jack (guitar) for years, and they are almost neighbours.

How long have you been playing as a band?

The band started in January 2017.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The band name comes from Ethan’s initials ‘ELS’ hence missing the ‘E’ between the ‘ELS’ and ‘WHERE’. The word Elswhere also represents being somewhere else, to get away from your issues and problems and we always try to take the listener on a journey with our songs and throughout the set.

What are your influences?

Bring Me The Horizon, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Lower than Atlantis and many more…

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music is quite varied, it takes a lot of inspiration from various genres to make each song sound different. As a band we try and incorporate awareness for mental health within the lyrics of our songs. We want to give a positive message to everyone who listens, and we hope it drives people to know there is hope and that there are always people out there to help you.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Lyrically, our themes mainly cover mental health through ambiguity to help relate, as well as themes of love and positivity.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We always try our best to interact with the crowd. We love when people sing our songs back to us and really get involved. We often hand out glow sticks during our show, its really cool seeing a packed venue with so many glow sticks waving about in the air, and who doesn’t love glow sticks! Since forming in 2017 we have probably played over 50 shows. We hope to have a little tour when our EP is released later this year!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We jump around in the crowd quite a lot!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

  • Ethan uses a 1978 Fender music master through a Marshall DSL 100H 4×10 Cab
  • Jack uses a Les Paul studio through a Marshall jcm800 with a 1960a 4×12” angled cab
  • Ben uses a Natal Drums with a mix of Zildjian and Sabian Cymbals, and Natal and DW hardware.
  • Matt uses a Fender P bass through an Eden Rig (Terra Nova Series)

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We have just released our debut single ‘This One’s For You’ We have had some really positive feedback from everyone and are very thankful for all the support we have had!

What are your plans for 2018?

We hope to release our first EP later this year, along with a couple more music videos. Hopefully, a little UK tour as well.
