Band of the Day: Redrum04

Melodic. Rocky. Possibly good words for Redrum04. Italian, though – they’re definitely Italian! Find out some more in our Band of the Day feature…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re from Parma, Italy. A beautiful town about an hour’s drive from Milan. Have you heard of it?

How did you meet?

Some of us met at school (quite some time ago now) while the others were introduced to us by mutual acquaintances, but we were all playing here and there with other bands.

How long have you been playing as a band?

We’ve been playing together for quite a few years – 16 to be exact. We lost a few members along the way, but the basic structural components have remained unchanged throughout these years.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The name of our band is due to the fact that we are all fans of Stanley Kubrick, and especially of his film The Shining – while the number 4 is the number of the building where we practice, and also, there are four of us in the group – so there was no better number.

What are your influences?

We are all great fans of bands like Korn, Incubus, System Of a Down, Breaking Benjamin and Nothing More.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music represents our personalities, what we have in our minds and what we harbour in our hearts. And because of the fact that each person is unique, our music is also unique. Our union generates a powerful sound, with fast-paced rhythms but also much melody.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

No, not especially. We talk about everything that passes through out heads without filters or biases.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Our live performances emanate lots of energy as well as many intimate, emotional moments. In recent years we have had the opportunity to perform hundreds and hundreds of times in Italy and all over Europe. We have performed in shows with many cool bands.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Marco, our guitarist, once performed naked, but luckily it was with another band.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Our guitarist uses only Gibson with Mesa Boogie amplifiers. The bass guitarist prefers Ibanez guitars and Gallien & Kruger amplifiers.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Currently we are promoting our latest release which we have called A New Era. It was released on April 13 and can be found on all the digital platforms.

What are your plans for 2018?

In 2018 we plan to promote our new recording in any and all ways, places and planets – we really want everyone to hear our music.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Well, if we were free to choose, we would open the concert with Breaking Benjamin, then it would be our turn, followed most definitely by Korn. We evolved listening to Blind.

From previous Band of the Day Core of iO: What is your view on streaming services such as Spotify as a band/artist breaking through? And do you think it helps or hinders developing artists?

We think that any approach that helps to make music known is positive and useful – and even better if it is simple and direct, as now happens with all the digital platforms.

From another BotD, The Grizzled Mighty: If you only had four Euros, what would you spend it on?

A beer, obviously!!

And from Dreaming of Jupiter: What is your favourite planet?

Mars, without a shadow of a doubt.
