Band of the Day: Then Comes Silence

We reviewed Blood by Then Comes Silence recently. Rachy was rather taken by the Goth-rock on offer so we thought we’d find out a little more about the Swedish minds behind the band…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We live in Stockholm, Sweden.

How did you meet?

The majority of the members have known each other for a long time. We met the newest member, Jonas, from hanging out in clubs in Stockholm.

How long have you been playing as a band?

The band was founded in 2012.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Alex came up with the name after reading an old horror novel. One of the chapters ended with the line “Then Comes Silence”. It sounded like something we should call the band. The name comes in handy when you strike the last chord of a loud live show.

What are your influences?

Many, but to name a few: Killing Joke, David Bowie, Black Sabbath and punk.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

It’s rock music under the banner of post-punk. A classic combo of two guitars, bass and drums.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Death, mankind, downfall and the “The transient nature of being”.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

It’s loud dark rock. We have played about 60 shows.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Most venues today are as safe as airports, so there’s not much action going on except for the live show, but I remember seeing an old man, really old, about the age of 90 or so sitting literally inside a large PA speaker during a show doing thumbs up to me. Good vibes indeed.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

No cheap and delicate stuff. Solid and premium brands only, but don’t even think of stealing our gear or we will bury you.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

The new album Blood and the upcoming November tour in Europe.

What are your plans for the rest of 2017, into 2018?

Promote the new album and play live as much as we are allowed.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

The teenage version of me would love to support Killing Joke. The Finnish band The Flatfield or The Danish band The Foreign Resort are very welcome to join us too.

From previous Band of the Day Boobs of DOOM: What would you get paid in, if you couldn’t have money, and why?

Extra time? We need more time for everything.

From another BotD, Pale People: What’s the longest you’ve gone without speaking to another band member on a road trip?

Five minutes.

And from Zebedy: If you had to replace your front person, but you could only pick from superheroes, who would it be and why?

Superman. An interesting outsider certainly with a lot of thoughts and issues going through his head.
