Band of the Day: Shock

Shock - Once DeniedWhen I think of power metal my mind strays to bands who’ve been around for maybe 10-15 years. Shock, from Ottawa, hail all the way back to the 1980’s when I was still mainly listening to stuff in the charts because I didn’t know any better.

They formed around 1985 and spent the next five years making a name for themselves opening up for some seriously big names – Motorhead, Megadeth, Metal Church, Anthrax… pretty cool! However, as was often the case in the 1990’s with  money drying up and record company execs wanting chart success rather than actual talent, they just couldn’t get a deal so decided to call it a day.

Now, with the advent of the internet and the wonders of self-promotion, they’re back. And after all those years, releasing their debut album, Once Denied! The album actually, finally, saw the light of day early last year but seeing as the songs themselves are as much as thirty years old I don’t think it’s that bad to have waited a little longer to hear them!

With a blend of classic metal, thrash and power styles it’s been worth the wait to finally get these tunes out to an audience beyond the North American borders. If you ever needed proof that metal never dies, and that you should never give up working for something, then this is it!

You can buy the album via the bandcamp link below, either as a download or a physical CD. NOTE: for the month of February, because they love you, if you “like” their facebook page you can get the album half price. That’s only $3.50cdn for the download!
