In a bid to add something a little different to the site, I thought I’d draft a little review of a night out that a couple of us had over at Golf Fang in Glasgow. It’s not every night there’s a gig on, so we thought we’d check out something else in the city. Golf Fang is located a short distance from the Hydro, and we actually park near it pretty often. The building stands out, painted as it is in black and white! But wait till you see the interior…
Before arriving we booked online and this was where our only real issues were encountered, so I’ll get them out of the way and then get to the rest of the evening. They offer a variety of tickets, some including drink or food vouchers, and we wanted a mixture which involved making two bookings as you can’t mix ticket types on one booking. A small issue, but then we had something come up and couldn’t go on the night planned. No problem, the confirmation emails said to click the link (there wasn’t one) or email to make a change to a booking – there are no refunds. I emailed, but didn’t get a reply and when we arrived at the venue it seemed that they hadn’t received the messages.
Having said that, the staff on site were polite and despite the place being busy managed to squeeze us in without complaint. Here’s hoping this was just a glitch and won’t affect anyone else going forward.

So… crazy golf? And cocktails? And some of the best décor you’ve ever seen? Hell yeah. The moment we walked into the reception area we thought we were impressed… and then we entered the building proper. Woah. Every damn surface is covered in dayglo graffiti art. And I mean every surface, including the ceiling panels. This is more impressive than you think given the size of the place, a converted warehouse. A big one.
There’s also a nicely immature humour level throughout, not just in the vast bar / dining area but all through the event space. I cannot emphasise how incredibly well done out the whole place is. The cocktails and mocktails are a big selling point, and there are plenty to choose from. They also do their own beer and cider and a bunch of other beverages. We didn’t try the food, but it looked like decent bar fare and maybe something we’ll check out on a return visit.
The actual golf is good fun with a full 18 holes, with each having a unique theme. The difficulty varies, and you can keep track of your scores using your mobile phone. Snap a QR code, enter your details and you’re away. You can even use the web app to order drinks while you’re playing so you don’t have to wander back to the bar and hold up the people behind you. There are loads of photo ops and you’re very much encouraged to take pictures and share them. You’re also encouraged to bring a Sharpie and scrawl your own messages, or stick your band’s stickers up wherever.
Having said that, despite all the permitted vandalism elsewhere, the toilets are incredibly clean!
Other than the booking issues, and maybe the lengthy bar queue (downside with cocktail bars is that cocktails aren’t as quick to pour as a pint of beer), we have absolutely no bad things to say about Golf Fang. The staff were awesome, the other punters in good humour and polite, the location spot on (free parking after 6)… a great night out for not a lot of money.

We’re already planning a return trip, likely with a different bunch of people. Once you’ve been round a minigolf course once, it does lose its novelty but this is a great place for a social event which bears repeat visits. I notice that they have locations in Liverpool, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield as well as Glasgow so we may be looking at a road trip!
Find them online to check out the menus, prices and offers. Maybe we’ll see you there!
