Mark Shelley

I am eclectic music lover with a passion for gigs at grass roots venues up and down the country.  Being a photographer seeing a new band that just blows me a way in front of a crowd of 50 people is up there with seeing my idols at Reading or Download. It’s the music and the performance that matters to me.

From: South Oxfordshire

Preferred genres: I love everything from classic rock right up to thrash, but grunge and hard rock are possibly my faves

5 favourite bands:

  • Molly Karloff
  • The Overload (Oxford)
  • Linkin Park
  • Nirvana
  • Foo Fighters

5 favourite albums:

  • Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory
  • System of a Down – Mezmerize
  • Judas Priest – Painkiller
  • Nirvana – Nevermind
  • Foo Fighters – There Is Nothing Left To Lose

Most embarrassing album owned: I don’t own it any more but my first ever album was Tiffany’s self titled album. I was young and horny is my only defence.

Favourite venues: Favourite venues is a hard one but for atmosphere The Vic in Swindon is amazing; bloody challenging to shoot in but a ton of fun at the same time.

The O2 Islington Academy can be a lot of fun with the right bands and crowd in and for pure crazy nights and bouncing around with my camera in the mosh pit. Level 3 in Swindon also needs a mention. It’s been a while since I was there but what a mental night!

First gig: I can’t remember my first gig other than I had a brilliant night at the Astoria and came round dancing in a Kings Cross tunnel to a police siren

Favourite gig: Maybe a strange choice cos we couldn’t get up and dance but Frank Turner in my hometown. It is one of the very few gigs I have been to with my wife and happens far too rarely and meant a lot to share the night with her.

Favourite drink: Mine’s a San Miguel – cheers!

Favourite food: a hot curry is a winner
