#ROADTOBOA Interview: The Hyena Kill

Bloodstock 2016 logoHere we go again… Last year we covered every band on the Hobgoblin New Blood and Jagermeister stages in the run-up to Bloodstock 2015. This year, we’re going one better and aim to have interviews from all the bands on those two stages as well as all of those on the SOPHIE stage prior to the event kicking off on August 11th. That’s almost 100 interviews to get online for you lucky people over the course of the next couple of weeks. I bloody love this job, but you lot owe me a beer at Catton Hall, right?

Thanks to all the bands who’ve taken the time to respond!

The Hyena Kill – Jagermeister stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Manchester

How did you meet?

We met on the local DIY band scene. We were both playing in different bands and decided to have a jam as we were both keen to make heavier music.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

It’s just coming up to 4 years now

Where does the name of the band come from?

We were literally just putting words together. It just came out after sitting around pissed riffing on band names. It has a bit of a ring to it. We were called Proud Cow first.

What are your influences – individually or as a band?

Without a doubt Deftones, Tool, Helmet and QOTSA to name a few.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Filthy riffs, heavy grooves and shouting. It’s just two people in a room venting all our frustrations and anger by making as much noise as possible with passion and honesty. No bullshit!

What’s your live show like – why should the baying hordes troop over to the stage you’re playing on to watch you?

Expect loads of energy and expect us to be musically beating the shit out of our instruments and lots of shouting. Perfect hangover cure.

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

We found out from our manager last week. We were just like FUCK! So hyped to be playing such an awesome festival.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We have big plans to do a 30 min improvised version of “Wonderwall”. *Sniggers*

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Really hope we don’t clash with COC, not seen them for years and would be gutted to miss them.

What are you working on at the moment?

We have just started writing songs for our second album. From what’s coming out at the moment it’s definitely going to be a heavier, groovier album than our debut Atomised.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

Well we are really bad drunks and usually end up passed out while anything wild is going on. We are keeping a diary though so we may have some mad stories to tell later down the line. You should hit us up after our October tour and we will fill you in on our antics. The video for our double A side “Still Sick/Blisters” was made while we were pissed, check it out. We dressed as robots and took to the streets of Manchester on our busking kit. Watch it here.

What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?

Practice as much as possible, write some songs you are happy with and rehearse the shit out of them. When you have done that gig as much as is humanly possible. Most important thing, don’t be a dick!

If you could be part of any 3-band line-up who else would you have on the bill? One band above you and one below – a chance to plug a smaller unsigned act!

Ahhhh on first without a doubt would be our good friends and doom mongers Under. Quality band. Headlining has to be Deftones.

What stage / time are you playing at Bloodstock (if you have your slot yet!)

Not sure of the exact time but we are playing on Friday 12th on The Jaegermeister Stage. Check out our facebook  as we will update that as soon as we find out our stage time.
