Band of the Day: Vyrju

[avatar user=”Mosh” size=”50″ align=”left” /]Yet another solo-ish act for you today, this time Norwegian-based Vyrju. “Formed” (the bio states “first melodies were created in…”) 2006 by Jan F. Lindsø, he recruited Tim Yatras (Germ, Austere, ex-Nazxul, ex-Woods of Desolation etc.) as a session musician to cover drums and clean vocals. All other duties are covered by Jan, as is the writing.

The band recently released a debut EP with the fitting title of Black. It’s an impressive collection of tracks with a really good mixture of styles. Extreme/black metal beats and harsh vocals blend perfectly with Tim’s clean voice. We’re not just talking some melodic background singing, either. There are plenty of verses which are fully clean vocals which – in my experience – is unusual for the blackened metal genre. Makes a nice change, too.

Check out the first track, “The Constant Void”, below. It’s a belter.

You can get the EP in physical form via Black Forest Records or Bandcamp, or digitally via those sources and a gajillion more (Spotify, Amazon…)
