RIP Ozzy Osbourne (3rd Dec 1948 – 22nd July 2025)

By the time we post this I’m sure many of you will already have heard the news. Barely a couple of weeks after “that” farewell show, the Prince of Darkness has passed away. Ozzy Osbourne died today at the age of 76.

Is there any point in writing any more? We all know the stories, the music and the legacy. Part of – the forefront of – arguably the most influential band in heavy metal (as well as his own solo career), were it not for Ozzy and Sabbath it’s debatable whether we would have a fraction of the music that we currently know and love. If you like metal, it doesn’t matter if you liked Sabbath or not. Without them, many of the bands you do like wouldn’t exist.

Ozzy lived an… interesting life. As stereotypically “rock and roll” as the 60s, 70, 80s and 90s would allow before it all caught up with him. And even then he kept going as long as he was able.

Thank you for everything, Ozzy. As always our thoughts are with those who were the closest to him, and we remember that he has given us something immortal. His music will always live on.

I’ve plucked “Mama, I’m Coming Home” out of the enormous pile of his music for this post. Why? It suits the mood I’m in, and it was co-written with Lemmy. May the pair of them enjoy eternity together sipping on JD and biting the heads off bats. Legends.
