Review: Zublue – Change the Channel

Zublue - Change the Channel

Southend-on-Sea, the longest pier you’ll ever see… that’s the song sung by Southend FC football fans and now, they may have a new sound to cleanse that palate which belongs to Zublue, and their debut EP Change the Channel recorded at Brighton Electric studios.

In their own words the band is formed of Dave Grohl’s stunt double, a man armed with a quiff of a dangerous height, and finally a bassist who holds the bass the wrong way round. The three men are Lawrence Faulkner – Drums, Jack Hollister – Guitar and Lloyd Entwistle – Bass, and Vocals.

Opening track “Media” kicks off proceedings very fast and informative with ‘Now everybody just thinks the same, controlled by the media.’ The stop start reminds me a lot of Liam Lynch’s United States of whatever. Sludge fuelled “Hammer the Nail” is a slower pace that feels to sit back and enjoy the ride. It’s intense with a touch of a Pale Horse Named Death.  “Stuck Transmission” is the curtain call of this EP and picks up the pace to a thrilling finale.

With three songs given to the atmosphere, the Essex trio, Zublue have created an impressive introduction with Change the Channel

Now it’s time to tap the watch and see what they bring out next.
