Due to the huge number of bands playing at Bloodstock this year, and the fact that our two roving reporters will actually want to watch some of them, we’re doing a little round of pre-festival interviews this year. We’re focussing on the bands playing the Jagermeister and Hobgoblin New Blood Stages so they get a chance to convince you to go and watch them. Remember, these guys and gals are the future of our musical world!
Where are you guys from?
East Midlands UK
How did you meet?
Jim(guitarist) And I (Dean, vocalist) met at music college, Lee(Bassist) is my brother… Our Drummer Danny was last to join the fold, he was introduced to me through a pro drummer friend of mine.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
7 years
Where does the name of the band come from?
It’s a metaphor for getting high on music…. Knock Out= KO…. Kaine…..KOKAINE!!!
What are your influences – individually or as a band?
Hard rock/metal, Country Rock, Funk, Punk and Prog… A real Hotch Potch!!!!
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
I guess we play, melodic rock music, but all of our influences which span many genres are in there… We wear our hearts (musically speaking) on our sleeves… The band is organic, billions of neural connections firing simultaneously to create the Knock Out Kaine sound, the sound is our own and we think it’s killer!!!
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We have toured constantly since the four of us came together, hundreds of shows across the UK and Europe… The live show is raw and varied, no two shows are the same… We invite the audience into the pit to roll around in the mud with us(metaphorically speaking) it’s loud, visceral and ultimately satisfying!
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
We were confirmed to play Bloodstock back in May, we were on tour at the time, our manager gave us the call, we celebrated by getting wasted after the show in our usual inimitable style!!!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
A smattering of songs from both our first album “House of Sins” and our new album “Rise Of The Electric Jester”…. Varied, but heavy and rockin’
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Rob Zombie.
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment its wall to wall Touring…. But in what little downtime we have we are writting…. The train never stops rolling.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
Our Bassist Lee, unwittingly punched Steven Adler of Guns N’ Roses in the gentleman’s vegetables three times when we were on tour with him a while back…. We were in Amsterdam and very stoned, there was also a copious amount of vomiting that night. We named the fateful evening “sick, Sick, Sick, the chunder of the beast!”
What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?
Work damn hard, drop everything and make any opportunity that comes your way work for you, dont make excuses…. If you get a chance at something good…TAKE IT!!!
If you could be part of any 3-band line-up (as support or headlining) who else would you have on the bill?
Knock Out Kaine, Motley Crue, AC/DC
Knock Out Kaine play the Jagermeister Stage on the Saturday.
