Video Roundup: The Darkness, Saxon, Demonstealer, ClayToRide, We Were Sharks, Corrosive

Friday saw a bunch of big-hitters dropping videos. Here’s a smattering, along with our usual supporting cast of up-and-comers…

The Darkness – “Happiness”

The Darkness have released the video for their new single “Happiness”, taken from the recently released Top 10 new album Pinewood Smile, out now through Cooking Vinyl.

“Happiness” is a deliriously feel-good anthem which finds The Darkness embracing the romance of a glorious love song. The video is a spectacular piece of animation featuring Justin, Dan, Frankie and Rufus in a surreal underwater playground of mermaids, octopuses, speedos, seahorses and, erm, tigers. Regarding the single Justin says:

“Happiness” is about seeing only the golden sand and overlooking the broken glass. Hearing the waves crash and filtering out the grotesque cries of mating gulls. Smelling the distant odour of fresh chips and ignoring the stench of nearby dog shit. Happiness is a choice. Choose The Darkness.

Saxon – “Thunderbolt”

Saxon isn’t wasting any time in 2018. Following the critically acclaimed release of Battering Ram in 2015, the heavy metal giants are set to release their latest studio album, Thunderbolt, on February 2nd via the Militia Guard label (Silver Lining Music).

The new album will feature original artwork by long time Saxon collaborator Paul Raymond Gregory. Biff Byford has this to say:

This is album 22 and it’s called Thunderbolt. It’s a Storming Smashing Thundering collection of tracks we’ve been crafting with Producer, Andy Sneap and it’s finished ready to be unleashed. Stand clear and fasten your seat belts!

Demonstealer feat. Kevin Paradis – “The Grand Collapse Of Humanity”

After a series of grand announcements, Demonstealer have unleashed their first single, “The Grand Collapse Of Humanity”, from the album that has guest appearances from members of bands like Aborted, Septicflesh, Benighted, De Profundis, Necrophagist, etc.

Demonstealer’s founder Sahil Makhija has this to say about it:

The story behind this song is pretty cool, Kevin actually uploaded a video of him practicing a Benighted song at 270bpm and he shared it in a common drum group saying he’s available for sessions work and I knew then that I wanted to write a song with him and I went to my studio, set the metronome to 270bpm and wrote this song. I sent Kevin an email with the song and he agreed to play on it. It was a real fun experience getting to work with him. His drumming is incredible.

ClayToRide – “Extincted”

Originally hailing from Italy, ClayToRide spent over seven years cutting their teeth and bedding in their sound before heading to Cardiff to make a new life. Expressing an amalgamation of appealing alternative rock cuts loaded with powerful razor-sharp hooks that render them an instantly catchy listen, this is a band that you need to hear.

With glowing comparisons to Biffy Clyro, Placebo, and the Foo Fighters, ClayToRide are set to rise further with the release of their new video, “Extincted”, lifted from their current EP, Worth Leaving.

We Were Sharks – “Stay”

Victory Records’ latest signing, We Were Sharks are premiering “Stay”, the second video behind their upcoming album, Lost Touch, set for release on February 23, 2018. The video lands just in time as the Canadian power punks pack their gear and hit the US next week to introduce new tracks from Lost Touch live for the very first time.

Corrosive – “Leftovers”

The new album from german death metallers Corrosive is just around the corner! Lucifer Gave The Faith will be released on December 8th and will feature ten tracks with a running time of 45 minutes.

As a foretaste, the guys have now released their first track on YouTube titled “Leftovers”. This comes as a very special “Bathroom” video, which the band spontaneously recorded on September 9th this year at the wedding of their drummer and which is just too terrific to be unseen!
