Tuesday Video Roundup: My Only, Sleeptalk, Shadowqueen, Vola

Another swift rundown with today’s recent releases. As ever, a bit of  mix – the beauty of rock is the number of different styles and genres.

My Only – “Saboteur”

Norfolk/Cambridge based emo punk quartet My Only are pleased to reveal the brand new video for “Saboteur”, the latest track to be taken from their forthcoming debut EP This Room & You released 2nd September 2016. Commenting on the track and video, bass player Sam Clark said:

The song itself is a reflection on situations that leave us feeling empty and often completely helpless. The video kind of mirrors that and is an attempt to illustrate the highs and lows of an on-going relationship between mother and daughter, particularly highlighting the subtleties that are often overlooked in day to day situations.

Sleeptalk – “Bones”

The LA space-rock quintet Sleeptalk (often stylized as SLPTVLK) has released a new music for their single “Bones”. In an attempt to convey the idea of getting lost in your own mind, SLPTVLK chose hazy California aesthetics to get across the emotions the song speaks about. The video was shot at Point Dume Beach and Valley Relics Museum in the San Fernando Valley. Vocalist Anthony Fitzpatrick says:

When conceptualizing the idea for bones, I immediately knew the beach needed to be included. Growing up just 20 minutes from the beach made it the perfect place to go and think about things. It’s also where myself and my friends used to go to smoke/drink during the hot summer days and dark, grainy winter nights. I knew in order to get the point across without making this video corny, I had to make it raw, I had to make it real, I had to make it exactly the way I wrote the song. Being young and free in this town, in California, means endless options. This video is exactly that concept. Undoubtedly, for myself and the band, this is the rawest/realist depiction of Sleeptalk.

Shadowqueen – “Waiting On You”

Melbournian hard rockers Shadowqueen return with their new single ‘Waiting On You’, the first offering from their sophomore album which is slated for a 2017 release. The uncompromising three piece consisting of Robbi Zana (vocals/bass), Si Hopman (guitar) and Alex Deegan (drums) have been garnering the support of punters and industry alike since the release of their self-titled album in 2012.

Vola – “Gutter Moon”

A musical journey into the mind in pursuit of happiness, set to a mix of 70’s progressive rock, modern day electronica and industrial, topped off with clear, beautiful vocal lines: that’s what young Copenhagen quartet VOLA is offering on their debut album Inmazes, out on Mascot Records on 2LP, CD and Digitally, September 16.

A few weeks back we showed you the animated video for “Starburn”. The band have followed it up with an equally cool one for “Gutter Moon”. They’ve also announced a support slot across Europe with Katatonia (including a whacking one UK date – in London, natch).
