So many incredible albums have come out of 2024. The year is now ending and we get to enjoy what’s left of the new releases before a new year with new music starts. Defects are one of these said bands. Their debut album “Modern Error” finally came out after years of waiting for fans.
Knife Bride is opening for us tonight. The Brighton 4-piece are described as nu-gothika. The band is fronted by the female vocalist, who has some strong vocals already for a young band. Saying that, the band quite the impressive tour slots behind them, so no doubt they have some decent experience.
I could see this band headlining a Bloodstock stage, one day. Is that weird to say? I can’t explain why, I just listen and watch them live and think “damn, they should be at bloodstock.” I wish they had a bigger turnout for their set, but the barrier itself was lined with excited fans and someone shouting out the lyrics that gained a shoutout from the vocalist.
I’d love to have seen guitarists move a bit more. Fair enough however the stage is small, because Key Club sucks. Sorry, let my hatred for the Key Club as a venue slip there. The guitarists moved, in place. When the vocalist was stuck at the mic stand, just switching up places or playing to the other side of the stage would’ve been great to see. Something to amp up that crowd interaction and stage presence a bit.

Profiler are a nu metal band hailing from Bristol. The band have that vibe to them akin to Linkin Park. Won’t lie, at first, it was a bit rough as the band performed with a heavy smoked out stage but once the room cleared a bit and more people came in from outside, the band really did show us what they’re made of.
All members have that energy that makes you want to jump with them on stage. The way you can feel that energy, from the pit, is palpable. Everyone at the barrier was moving their feet and moshing their heads over the stage. After the end of each song, the crowd were bellowing “Woo” and “Yeah boi”s.
The vocals were stable as the stage got more heated, though the mix was a bit rough. The vocals were overpowered by the drums and bass especially. Maybe that’s how they like it, but it made it hard as the breakdowns hit, to hear the vocals unless they were harsh. Still, it didn’t stop the crowd from absolutely lapping them up.

Defects take to the stage, with dimming lights. The UK band is here to promote their debut album, after being together for quite some time already. It’s finally here. Fans can rejoice and this can now lead new fans to discover the artists on streaming platforms. The band blends harsh and soft vocals beautifully. With sick riffs and breakdowns to make you want to jump on the people next to you.
The crowd had packed closer to the stage now, leaving enough room for a pit to form. Though the pit wasn’t used all the time, it made the perfect space for some drunk men on a Friday night to dance, which is always a plus. The fans outstretched their hands to the stage and some even managed to get fist bumps from the members.
The band gave a shout-out to both the supports who came on the tour with them, after complaining of the heat (I’m not surprised with how hard they were going on stage). They then got straight into their next track, which had a circle pit form before the fans just started pushing each other. I almost feel sorry for the band having to perform on the small stage. Each member had as much energy, if not more, as the crowd below and the restriction on the stage size was clear to see. One guitarist especially was stuck behind another ass the stage could only fit three people at the front.
Defects is a band that has all the elements of metal that make it so appetizing to people who like a mix of genres. They’ve blended perfectly and you can hear it clear as day in their debut album, Modern Error. The band will be wrapping up this tour a week into November but I expect to see a lot from them in 2025 (how has this year gone so fast already?). Knife Bride and Profiler have their own unique styles to celebrate, fingers crossed we get to see them both on some sick festival line ups in the summer.
