I don’t think anyone here was prepared for how hot the pit would get. The clouds may be grey but goddamn I’m melting. Dress wisely. You’ve been warned. We’ve reached September and when I tell you I’ve been waiting a long time for this band to come to the UK- The Plot in You has been on an incredible rise this past year and we in the UK finally get to see them in all their glory.
Acres open tonight with their amazing aura, to get a good energy going for the night. The 5-piece from the South more than experienced up North. Their usual singing to you and not at you going down a treat for the audience, who bob their heads along the barrier. The vocals are never sparing a second too long at one end of the stage as he’s always on the move.
Acres have a great ability at drawing you in without having much crowd interaction. I’ve seen this band performing with some great headliners and each year they’ve been upping that bar. My first time seeing them was Dayseeker, and now it’s The Plot in You. To say the guys are creating a solid space for themselves within the new found popularity of metalcore would be an understatement. After being screwed over by the pandemic just after their album release- the band have definitely been busy securing these insane spots to tour with some of the biggest names right now.
Invent Animate came on and my first note was “damn”. Damn, indeed. The band has an amazing presence about them. Whether that’s the music or the all white coordinated outfits, I’m not sure. The outfits they came out in. Loved it. Love when a band has a wardrobe. It shows that extra thought put into the stage design that you can’t fault. Even if the lighting was er…less than that, I can tell that behind the scenes someone said “hey guys, you know what would look sick?”.
The musicianship of the band comes through, through the live performance. The vocals with those deep growls and gritty screams were hitting and you couldn’t help but mosh your head along. With how packed the crowd was, it was hard to see over the heads into the middle to find a circle pit, but I have faith that at least a small one was in existence with how hard these drums and beatdowns were hitting.
Both the guitarists were on the move, switching places. One in particular encouraging a pit to begin, whenever the music would drop. The drums were great too. They were shrouded in haze the entire set so, sadly no proof of his existence due to lack of photos. The vocalist did great at interacting with the crowd. Encouraging them to sing along (acknowledging there was probably a great number of fans who’d been waiting years for them to come) and constantly throwing his mic to the crowd.

The Plot in You came on with a bang. Literally. They lifted a curtain during intermission and set off some confetti as it dropped. The band opened with the song “Don’t Look Away“, an apt song now I think about it for a set opener- absolute tune. The crowd went absolutely wild at the opening lyrics where the singer screams “BRIIIIING ME TO-” and phones and fists raised in the air.
Between each song the vocalist would compliment the audience with things like “hell yeah” “that’s what we like.” Each moment addressing the audience was met with an immense “woo” from below. The crowd was completely around the finger of the vocalist. All he had to do was ask for more surfers during “THE ONE YOU LOVED” and I swear about 20-50 surfers emerged from the pit endlessly. Security almost doubled within seconds along the barrier and catching as many as they could.
Each band member gave a great performance tonight. It would’ve been great to see the guitarists get closer to the edge of the stage and interact a bit more to the barrier and fans but, the vocalist himself was constantly moving between sides and staring down the audience (watching and evaluating their performance) as he rubbed his hands getting into the zone.
The Plot In You are a band that have been in the scene for a while but have blown up to an insane level during the past 2-4 years. The sound the band brought to metalcore is refreshing with its raw vocals and grit with almost hardcore beat downs. Invent Animate have been stapling themselves in the scene and earning some great festival spots and Acres are steadily becoming one of the UK’s best in the metal scene. The tour has two more dates in the UK, so if you sadly missed out on tickets…I don’t know, you’ll just have to watch youtube clips or something.
