Gig Review: Dayseeker / ACRES / Love Is Noise – The Dome, London (13th May 2023)

A sold out show in the capital set the scene for the first of two shows in London for Dayseeker’s Dark Sun Tour. The four-piece Californian progressive metalcore/post-hardcore outfit visited this side of the Atlantic for the first time in a long while, bringing ACRES and Love Is Noise with them to The Dome in North London.

The show kicked off with Love Is Noise, a grungy, emo three piece act from the U.K. that took me by surprise! The juxtaposition of emotional falsetto vocals over chordy passages with intense periods of blast beats and screams during a number of tracks certainly awoke the crowd! Vocalist Cameron engaged well with the room, warming up the audience with not only his impressive vocals but his nice guy persona! All in all Love Is Noise intriguing mix of genres and vibrant stage presence made for a great start to night’s proceedings.

Main support came from ACRES, a four piece melancholic melodic rock band from the South Coast of the U.K. Their set kicked off with “Burning Throne” and “Into Flames” off their latest record Burning Throne released in March earlier this year. There was a familiarity in the room with ACRES’ powerful riffs backed by strong grooves on the drum, with soaring vocals over the top. The band also featured tracks of their debut album Lonely Island, including “Lullaby” which filled the air with twinkling delay-infused guitar riffs and calming vocals. ACRES’ penultimate track “Nothing” is a personal favourite of mine with the heavy riffs and solid drum grooves, getting the crowd moving. The band ended their set with the title track of their debut album Lonely World.

Dayseeker took to the stage with the crowd thoroughly warmed up and ready for their bouncy down-tuned groovy riffs combined with crystal clean vocals. The band kicked off with “Dreamstate”, the first track off their new album Dark Sun, getting the crowd jumping about.

Next up were two favourites of mine “Gates of Ivory” and “Crooked Soul”, off Sleeptalk, the latter of which had the crowd opening up a circle pit. Vocalist Rory Rodriguez’s ability to switch from pitch perfect soaring highs down to thick and menacing growls was very impressive.

Dayseeker, all dressed in slim fit black suits, had a certain swagger about them on stage, with all members of the band interacting with the crowd in some way. I certainly felt drawn in. All bar one track from Dayseeker’s set was from their latest two albums, so it was a nice surprise for the band to throw it back to “Vultures” off Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising. This track slightly heavier than others on the night opened up larger mosh pits and had the crowd energised!

Dayseeker then took it down a notch with “Crying Whilst You’re Dancing” and “Paper Heart” which had the crowd swaying their phone torches in the air. During this segment, Rory took the time to connect with the crowd and explain the meaning of Dayseeker’s latest album – his father’s battle with cancer and his unfortunate recent passing. It’s not often that such deep and personal emotions are shared with a crowd of strangers, however, the room was full of sympathy and love.

The band picked up the energy levels again with “Drunk” and “Sleeptalk”, fan favourites, which had the crowd moving again. Dayseeker ended their set on “Neon Grave” with the opening riff featuring a bouncy and riffy guitar motif that is synonymous with Dayseeker’s tracks. The crowd sang along at the top of their lungs and threw down for the last time during the middle section breakdown of the track!
