Gig Review: Impericon Never Say Die tour – Garage, Glasgow (10th November 2022)

Apologies for the delay with this review popping up. Zdravka was one of the Bloodstock Car Share Buddies who headed down to Derby with us earlier this year and got in touch as she’d been to the event and wanted to share a few words. Who are we to refuse a gig review?

I call the 2022 tour the Deathcore Edition, because in previous years the lineup used to be mostly hardcore and metalcore. I went to see Spite, After the Burial and Suicide Silence – it was my first time seeing all of them and they did not disappoint! I was late for the show so I missed the first two bands (Boundaries, and Cabal from Denmark, the only European band this year).

Invent Animate had this atmospheric/ psychedelic metalcore sound that slightly reminds me of Northlane. The crowd seemed to enjoy their vibe.

Spite were way younger than I expected. While (in my view) they are an established name in deathcore, it turned out that this was their first European tour. The crowd went absolutely wild while they were on stage. I will not be surprised if they come back to Europe very soon.

After Spite, Currents seemed a little too chill, because of their ambient/ melodic style, but the crowd was having fun anyway.

After the Burial got the crowd back to its feet with their punchy riffs and their extremely chatty front man. He told us how he broke his leg while he was out with his wife and band mates, and how heavy the pandemic was on his mental health. It’s not easy to speak about things like this and I’m glad that the topic is getting more popular and people are more open to talking about as the pandemic depression has been there for way longer than any other.

What happened when Suicide Silence came up on stage can only be described in one way: pure insanity.

Bodies floating above our heads, and a wall of death and a massive circle pit kept going almost the whole time. The energy was absolutely amazing! Suicide Silence have a new drummer, Ernie, who joined the band this year and seems to be getting on well. Hernan didn’t seem to understand the Scottish accent (English is his second language so he was struggling) and it was very funny when he tried to imitate it.

Even missing the first couple of bands, this was a great value-for-money night out with a decent amount of variety despite the closeness in genre across the bands.
